Too Far

Emmett’s younger brother, Michael, was always ▶️ pranks on him. They were usually quite harmless, like the ⏱️ Michael put a rubber, squeaky 🐀 in Emmett’s 👞. Emmett was definitely 😯 the morning that 👨🏻 👂🏻 a 🔊 squeak come from his 👞 as 👨🏻 slipped his foot in. At the same ⏱️, 👨🏻 felt the soft, squishy object against his toe ➕ immediately reacted by gasping ➕ throwing the 👞, which thumped hard against the entry table. The 🥛 vase on 🔝 teetered 🔙 ➕ forth before tipping on its side ➕ rolling off the table in a 🔊 crash. The vase shattered into pieces, some skittering all the way across the floor to where Michael sat 😆 on the couch. Of course that got his mother’s attention. 👩🏻 ran in from the kitchen, where 👩🏻 was packing their lunches for the day. Of course Emmett got in trouble for throwing the 👞, ➕ Michael sat there 👂🏻 to Emmett get lectured about throwing things in the 🏘️ with a smug 👀 on his😀. His 👩🏻 💬 👨🏻 would learn his punishment when his mother ➕ father had ⏱️ to discuss it after 🏫, but in the meantime, 👩🏻 took 👨🏻 favorite snack, a Cosmic Brownie, out of 👨🏻 lunch box ➕ 🗣️ him 👨🏻 wouldn’t be getting a snack today as 👩🏻 dropped a baggie of 🥕 in the brownie’s place.

Emmett was 😫 of Michael’s pranks ➕ how Michael never got in trouble for anything. It was Michael’s fault that Emmett threw the 👞 that broke the vase, but his parents wouldn’t 👂🏻 to him ➕ grounded him for a week. Emmett decided then ➕ there that Michael would never prank him 🔂. 👨🏻 would make sure of it.

Several years ago, Emmett 🏆 a orange-striped goldfish at the state fair in 1️⃣ of those 💍-toss games. The life expectancy of 1️⃣ of those goldfish isn’t typically that long, but Emmett took 👍🏻 care of his fish. 1️⃣ Saturday morning, Emmett woke 🔎 👨🏻⬅️ goldfish, which 👨🏻 had named Bubbles, floating on the 🔝 of the tank, lifeless. Emmett 💬 nothing to his parents or his brother, ➕ instead of flushing Bubbles ⬇️ the 🚽, 👨🏻 decided to use it to teach Michael a lesson ➕ 🛑 the pranks 🔂 ➕ for all.

Emmett’s parents both had work ➕ ⬅️ Emmett in charge of ⌚️ Michael. It was lunch ⏱️ ➕ Emmett decided to make 🥪. Both 👦🏻 like 🥔 chips on their 🥪, which was perfect for helping Emmett conceal the lump created by the goldfish in Michael’s 🥪. Emmett took his ⏱️ spreading mayonnaise on both pieces of 🍞 for Michael’s 🥪. 👨🏻 layered a piece of 🧀, several pieces of ham, a squirt of mustard, the goldfish, some more ham, ➕ a ✋🏻 of chips between 2️⃣ pieces of 🍞. The 👀 on Michael’s 😀 when he bit into the goldfish was hilarious, but the 👀 when Michael realized what was in his 🥪 made Emmett realize that 👨🏻 had taken this prank way too far. 👨🏻 felt terrible ⌚️ Michael get 😷 for 🔟 minutes. Both Michael ➕ Emmett learned a lesson that day, ➕ Michael never pranked Emmett 🔂.
